Co-written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton ("Short Term 12"), the biopic "The Glass Castle" is based on Jeannette Walls' memoir of the same name and it chronicles the nomadic and dysfunctional family life of her childhood.

Walls is an author and journalist, widely known for her contributions to the gossip column "Scoop" at MSNBC.com, as well as Esquire, New York magazine and USA Today. In 2007 she dedicated herself to writing full-time. She also wrote "Half Broke Horses: A True-Life Novel" based on the life of her grandmother in 2009, and The Silver Star in 2013.

The film stars Brie Larson, Ella Anderson, Woody Harrelson, Naomi Watts, Max Greenfield, Chandler Head and Sarah Snook. In 2012 it was announced that Jennifer Lawrence would star in the lead role, but in 2015 Lawrence left the project, which wasn't moving forward at the time, and was replaced by Larson.

"The Glass Castle" opened in theaters on August 11th, 2017 and received generally mixed reviews from critics, who praised the cast, but took issue with the misguided handling of the source material. It finished 9th at the box-office, grossing $4.9 million from 1,461 theaters.
