"The Sinner" is a new crime drama anthology series created by Derek Simonds ("The Astronaut Wives Club") that premiered on the USA Network on August 2nd, 2017. The first season consists of 8 episodes and is based on the German novel of the same name written by Petra Hammesfahr.

Jessica Biel stars as a young mother who commits a violent crime against a stranger at the beach, apparently without any reason. The show also focuses on the efforts of a detective (Bill Pullman) assigned to the case, who believes there's more to it than a seemingly random murder. All episodes are directed by Antonio Campos ("Christine"). Christopher Abbott, Abby Miller, Dohn Norwood, Robert Funaro and Enid Graham also star.

The next episode of "The Sinner" Season 1 will air on August 9th.

"The first installment of the close-ended series follows a young mother (Jessica Biel) who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence and to her horror has no idea why. The event launches an inverted and utterly surprising crime thriller whose driving force is not the “who” or the “what” -- but the “why” -- as an investigator (Bill Pullman) finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman's buried motive. Together they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past."
