The horror film "Annabelle: Creation" is a new installment in "The Conjuring" franchise and a prequel to the 2014 spinoff "Annabelle" featuring the titular possessed doll. Directed by David F. Sandberg ("Lights Out"), the film is set in 1943 and chronicles the origins of the doll.

The cast features Lulu Wilson, Stephanie Sigman, Anthony LaPaglia, Miranda Otto, Philippa Coulthard, Tayler Buck, Grace Fulton, Alicia Vela-Bailey and Lou Lou Safran.

"Annabelle: Creation" opened in theaters on August 13th, 2017. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and was hailed as far superior to its predecessor. It was also a hit at the box-office, opening with $35 million in the U.S. and Canada and $71.7 million worldwide versus a budget of $15 million.

"Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker's possessed creation, Annabelle."
