2016 Oscars Winners Announced

The 88th Annual Academy Awards winners were announced in a traditionally boring ceremony hosted by Chris Rock. The show was mostly a one-joke affair focused on the diversity issue which opened nicely with Rock's great monologue, but just dragged on as the ceremony piled on more social commentary ranging from ecology to sexual assaults. As a result the Oscar ratings have dropped to an 8-year low. To be more exact, the 2016 show earned the worst ratings since the 2008 Oscars hosted by Jon Stewart.

As far as the awards go, it was a pretty interesting ride. "Mad Max: Fury Road" earned the most awards, wiping out the competition in six technical categories, but missed out on the big ones. "The Revenant" picked up three trophies for Director (Alejandro G. Inarritu), Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki), breaking two records in the process: first back-to-back Best Director win for Inarritu and first Oscars hattrick for Lubezki.

The Academy managed to give out awards to everyone from "Ex Machina" and "The Danish Girl" to "The Hateful Eight", while Spotlight" won Best Picture and became the second film in Oscars history to do that with only two total wins (the other was 1952's "The Greatest Show on Earth").

Well, almost everyone got something. Sylvester Stallone lost Best Supporting Actor to Mark Rylance ("Bridge of Spies") and Lady Gaga lost Best Song to Sam Smith for "Spectre". Also, "The Martian" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" went home empty-handed. Overall, it was a pretty crazy night.

Weekend Box-Office: GODS OF EGYPT No Match For DEADPOOL

"Deadpool" held his own at the top of the box-office for a third consecutive week while big-budget epic "Gods of Egypt" flopped in second place. The other new wide releases "Eddie the Eagle" and "Triple 9" also had a hard time in the Top 10.

Razzies 2016 Winners Include FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and FANTASTIC FOUR

Before the Oscars are awarded tonight, it's time for the other infamous awards institution to hand out its undesired trophies. We're talking about the dreaded Razzie Awards. The winners of the 2016 Razzies were announced and the big winner was "Fifty Shades of Grey" with five awards including Worst Picture which the S&M romance had to share with the comic book fiasco "Fantastic Four". The latter also took home Worst Remake and Director for Josh Trank. The Razzies also handed out the newly instituted Razzie Redeemer Award to this year's Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone for his excellent work in "Creed".

It's the Oscars weekend, and ironically, there aren't any amazing new movies out in theaters. We have the Razzie-worthy fantasy epic "Gods of Egypt" which has prompted some furious reactions from critics, and then there are the crime thriller "Triple 9" and the biopic "Eddie the Eagle", both of which received a lukewarm reception. In limited release you can catch the sequel "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny", although even this one doesn't seem to be very good. More about each movie after the jump.

New EDDIE THE EAGLE Clips, Featurettes and Posters

The semi-fictional biopic "Eddie the Eagle" opens today in theaters, so here are some new clips, featurettes and posters.

The critics weren't all that happy with the film's ode to participation. While the feel-good inspirational tone and contagious enthusiasm work for the most part, it's certainly nothing new despite the rather unique true story it's based on, and it ultimately succumbs to genre cliches.

Directed by Dexter Fletcher ("Wild Bill"), the film stars Taron Egerton, Hugh Jackman, Christopher Walken, Jo Hartley and Edvin Endre.

TRIPLE 9 - 6 Clips and 21 Pictures

Open Road Films has released a batch of six new clips and twenty-one images for their crime thriller "Triple 9" which is now in theaters.

The film received a generally mixed reception from critics. It's obviously got a ton of talent involved and it definitely helps when the film's potboiler thrills begin to falter. It seems that the good and the bad are balanced enough, so anyone up for a gritty R-rated crime thriller should check this one out.

Directed by John Hillcoat ("The Road"), the film stars Woody Harrelson, Casey Affleck, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Gal Gadot, Norman Reedus, Aaron Paul, Teresa Palmer, and Clifton Collins Jr..

GODS OF EGYPT - Final Trailer, 4 Clips and 12 Posters

Today we have the final trailer, four clips and twelve posters for the trippy fantasy epic "Gods of Egypt".

The movie has been slammed by critics, which was actually to be expected if you've watched any of the trailers. Reviewers say that it's so bad it's not even good. The movie is apparently so abysmally bad that Rottentomatoes.com actually wrote a poetic riff on Percy Bysshe Shelley's sonnet "Ozymandias" instead of their usual prosaic Critical Consensus: Look on Gods of Egypt, ye filmgoers, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay of this colossal wreck, boundless and bare. The lone and level sands stretch far away. (Apologies to Shelley.)" Yup, I guess that's pretty freakin' bad.

Directed by Alex Proyas ("The Crow"), the film stars Brenton Thwaites, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerard Butler, Courtney Eaton, Abbey Lee, Geoffrey Rush, Rufus Sewell, Elodie Yung and Chadwick Boseman.

"Gods of Egypt" opens in theaters on February 26th, 2016.

Tye Sheridan Lands Lead in READY PLAYER ONE

"X-Men: Apocalypse" actor Tye Sheridan has joined the cast of Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One". The sci-fi adventure based on Ernest Cline's novel is being developed by Warner Bros with Cline himself writing the script.

The story takes place in the year 2044 in a world that has become such a mess that the only escape people have is within a vritual reality universe called OASIS that acts as both video game and social network. Sheridan is set to star as Wade Watts, a teenager who spends most of his time inside OASIS. His life radically changes when he uncovers the first clue in an Easter Egg hunt initiated by the virtual universe's creator upon his death. Wade's own survival is at risk as other players will stop at nothing to get their hands on the ultimate prize.

The cast also includes Olivia Cooke ("Bates Motel") as Art3mis, a fellow player and blogger who Watts has a crush on, and Ben Mendelsohn ("Rogue One") as the villain Nolan Sorrento.

"Ready Player One" opens in theaters on March 30th, 2018.

DAREDEVIL Season 2 Elektra Trailer and Poster

After the release of the Punisher-centric trailer last week for "Daredevil" Season 2, it's time for Elektra (Elodie Yung) to get her time in the spotlight with a new trailer and poster. The new video also teases the rise of the crime syndicate known as The Hand. The show also stars Charlie Cox, Jon Bernthal, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Rosario Dawson and Scott Glenn.

"Daredevil" Season 2 will premiere on March 18th.

GAME OF THRONES Season 6 Character Posters

Today HBO has released a batch of seventeen character posters for "Game of Thrones" Season 6. The posters continue the grim tone of the previously released teaser trailer featuring a gallery of severed heads which basically announced that starting from this season, all bets are off. This is the first time that the series will depart from George RR Martin's books, so expect a lot of surprises.

The cast features Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Sophie Turner, Alfie Allen, Maisie Williams, Lena Headey, Gwendoline Christie, Carice van Houten, Nathalie Emmanuel, Ian McShane, Max von Sydow, Melanie Liburd and Natalie Dormer.

"Game of Thrones" Season 6 will premiere on April 24th.

THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS - First Trailer and Images

The first trailer and images for the drama "The Light Between Oceans" have been released. Written and directed by Derek Cianfrance ("The Place Beyond the Pines") based on M.L. Stedman's novel of the same name, the film stars Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander as a lighthouse keeper and his wife living off the coast of Western Australia who raise a baby they rescue from an adrift rowboat. Rachel Weisz, Caren Pistoriu, Benedict Hardies and Emily Barclay co-star.

"The Light Between Oceans" will open in theaters on September 2nd.
