The nominees for the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced and, thankfully, there are more surprises than snubs this year.
First of all, the epic series "Game of Thrones" landed 23 nominations, the most of any other program this year, contributing to HBO's domination over the Emmys this year with a total of 94 nominations over 21 programs, including "Veep" and "Silicon Valley".
The other major nominees this year are "The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" with 22 nods and "Fargo" with 18, both FX shows. Netflix's "House of Cards", "Making a Muderer" and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" also made a good impression this year.
Among the bigger surprises are the six nominations landed by the debut season of "Mr. Robot", and the first ever for USA Network, as well as the first nominations for "The Americans" stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys. The latter series also received its first and long overdue nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.
The awards ceremony will be held on September 18th with Jimmy Kimmel acting as host.
