Gillian Anderson Joins AMERICAN GODS Series

Gillian Anderson Picture
Gillian Anderson has been quite active lately. After the final season of "Hannibal", the actress reprised the role of Dana Scully in the "The X-Files" revival miniseries, starred in the Netflix serial killer series "The Fall" and the big-screen drama "Sold", and appeared in Lifetime's "War & Peace" miniseries.

Anderson's next project will be "Hannibal" creator Bryan Fuller and Michael Green's series based on Neil Gaiman's novel "American Gods". The story chronicles a war between the Old Gods of ancient mythology and the New Gods, manifestations of modern life and technology. Anderson will star as Media, "the mouthpiece for the New Gods". Here's a full description of her role from the official press release:
"Anderson will play Media, the mouthpiece for the New Gods, functioning as their public face and sales representative, by taking the form of various iconic celebrities. She lives off the attention and worship that people give to screens-to their laptops, their TVs, to their iPhones in their hands while they watch their TVs. Ever the perky spokesperson, and always in control, she spins stories in whatever direction best suits her."

American Gods
The cast also features Ricky Whittle, Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber, Ian McShane, Cloris Leachman, Peter Stormare, Yetide Badaki and Crispin Glover. The first episode, which is set to air on Starz in 2017, will be directed by David Slade ("Hard Candy"). Until then, here is the synopsis for the first episode:

"A man, broken and alone, wishes only to survive his time in prison long enough to see his wife. Again. Although unexpected news releases him from prison early, it is hardly the news he wishes. Left feeling like he is looking at the world from the bottom of a well, he must literally walk the heroes' path back to a time where he even resembles sanity."
