Lady Gaga is in talks to star alongside Bradley Cooper in the remake of "A Star is Born". The project is being developed by Warner Bros with Cooper set to make his directorial debut.
The story of a talented singer's rise to stardom has been brought to the big screen three times before. The 1937 drama starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March is the original, and it won an Academy Award for Best Writing. The first remake was directed by George Cukor in 1954, starring Judy Garland and James Mason, and it was quite successful, earning six Academy Awards nominations. And, finally, there was Frank Pierson's 1976 film starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, which won an Oscar for the song "Evergreen", but despite its strong leads and a great soundtrack, it pales in comparison to the previous two versions.
The new remake went through various changes before arriving at its current form. Clint Eastwood was attached to direct at one point, and Beyonce was circling the lead role. After Cooper stepped in, Lady Gaga was brought on board. The two apparently tested together and the studio loved the results. Bradley Cooper will also produce the film alongside Todd Phillips and Bill Gerber.
