Weekend Box-Office: CAPTAIN AMERICA - CIVIL WAR Opens With $181.8 Million

And the title of this post says it all. It was a great week for Disney as the lastest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe saga exploded at the box-office. Competition was light, though, as no other studio had the nerve to risk opening their movies alongside the comic book behemoth. One other movie, however, managed to thrive despite all that pressure.

Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.

"Captain America: Civil War" opened with $181.8 million in the U.S., the third largest opening for an MCU film. It's also a great evolution from "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" which scored a $95 million debut in 2014. It should be noted that this new installment also features veteran Marvel superhero and box-office superstar Iron Man, as well as the highly anticipated appearances of new additions Black Panther and Spider-man, making this more of an "Avengers" movie than a standalone installment. "Civil War" also grossed $496.6 million overseas.

With "Civil War" doing so well domestically, "The Jungle Book" in second place this week with $21.8 million, and "Zootopia" still bringing in money, Disney has just become the fastest studio to cross the $1 billion mark in domestic earnings in just 128 days. The record was previously broken by Universal last year in 165 days.

"Mother's Day" offered this week's biggest surprise. The film managed to capitalize on its holiday theme and actually saw a 7.6% increase this week, bringing in $9 million, compared to last week's disappointing $8 million debut. Its domestic total now stands at $20.7 million, very close to breaking even with its $25 million budget.

On the opposite side of "good business" are the R-rated comedy "Keanu" which dropped 67.4% with $3 million, and the animated film "Ratchet & Clank" which earned only $1.4 million this week for a 70% drop.

New Wide Releases: "Captain America: Civil War".

Biggest Drop : "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" (-73%)
