"The Jungle Book" still dominated the box-office in spite of three new wide releases: "Keanu", "Mother's Day" and "Ratchet & Clank". In fact, not one of those new films actually managed to cross the $10 million mark this weekend.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
"The Jungle Book" earned another $42.4 million this weekend, raising its domestic total to $252 million, while its international earnings have reached $432.7 million.
In second place, "The Huntsman: Winter's War" struggles as it adds $9.3 million for a feeble $33.9 million domestic gross. Overseas, the film is doing somewhat better with a $97 million total.
The first new wide release of the week, the R-rated comedy "Keanu" placed third with $9.3 million. The film only cost $15 million to produce, so the result isn't that bad, all things considered.
At #4 we have the second new release, the all-star holiday themed romcom "Mother's Day" which only grossed $8.3 million, a step down from director Garry Marshall's similar films "Valentine's Day" which opened with a solid $56.2 million in 2010, and "New Year's Eve" which only managed to take in $13 million in its first weekend in 2011. "Mother's Day" also received a lot of very negative reviews and is currently rated 8% on Rottentomatoes.com.
The last new wide release, Gramercy's animated video game adaptation "Ratchet & Clank" only took in $4.8 million, ranking seventh. The film's budget is estimated at $20 million, but it's a disappointment considering the film was meant to revitalize the series along with the new PlayStation 4 game released last month. The film received generally bad reviews.
New Wide Releases: "Keanu", "Mother's Day", "Ratchet & Clank".
Biggest Drop : "Criminal" (-57.5%)
Smallest Drop : "Zootopia" (-23.9%)
