"The Jungle Book" once again proved to be a formidable force at the box-office, while new release "The Huntsman: Winter's War" fell flat.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
Disney's "The Jungle Book" remake stayed in first place with another $60.8 million this weekend, which amounts to a 41% drop, the fourth smallest second weekend drop for a film that opened over $100 million. The film's domestic gross has now reached $191 million with another $337 million earned overseas.
Universal's "The Huntsman: Winter's War" only managed a second place debut with a weak $20 million. This is much worse than its predecessor "Snow White and the Huntsman" which took in $56 million in its opening weekend. On a positive note, the sequel only cost $115 million to produce compared to the original's much larger $170 million budget. That's unusual when it comes to big budget sequels. Overseas, the film has grossed $80.2 million in two weeks.
Disney once again has something to be happy about, as their animated feature "Zootopia" enjoyed its best weekend-to-weekend hold, dropping only 18.8% and adding another $6.6 million this weekend. The film has reached a worldwide total of $907 million.
A surprise this weekend comes from Lionsgate and Pantelion's little-known action comedy "Compadres" which brought in $1.35 million from only 368 locations. Outside the top 10, the limited release of the Tom Hanks starrer "A Hologram for the King" grossed $1.2 million from 401 theaters.
New Wide Releases: "The Huntsman: Winter's War".
Biggest Drop : "Barbershop: The Next Cut" (-46.5%)
Smallest Drop : "Zootopia" (-18.8%)
