Jennifer Lawrence and AMERICAN HUSTLE Writer Reunite for MARITA

Jennifer Lawrence to star in Marita
Jennifer Lawrence is set to re-team with "American Hustle" writer Eric Warren Singer for the biopic "Marita". Lawrence will star as Marita Lorenz, a German-born American woman who had an affair with Fidel Castro in 1959 and was involved in a supposed CIA-planned assassination attempt on the dictator's life in January 1960.

Lorenz became involved with Castro when she arrived in Havana with her father at the age of 19. She lived with him for several months, became pregnant and underwent an abortion, which she claims was forced on her. After she left the island, she joined anti-Castro activists in Florida. In the 1970s and 1980s, she testified about the John F. Kennedy assassination, stating that she was involved with a group of anti-Cuban militants and the CIA.

Lorenz's story has been adapted before in Jack Bender's 1999 TV film "My Little Assassin" starring Gabrielle Anwar in the lead role and Joe Mantegna as Fidel Castro.

Lawrence also intends to produce "Marita" alongside Scott Mednick, Matt Tolmach, and Andre Rouleau. So far, no other details are available regarding who will direct and co-star, but I suspect that with Lawrence on board, the project will advance at a rapid pace.
