Steve Carell and Emma Stone to Star in BATTLE OF THE SEXES

Academy Award nominees Steve Carell ("Foxcatcher") and Emma Stone ("Birdman") have signed on to star in "Battle of the Sexes", an adaptation of the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King (Stone) and retired Wimbledon champion Bobby Riggs (Carell). The historic match, dubbed Battle of the Sexes, earned the highest TV ratings since the Moon Landing.

The film will be directed by "Little Miss Sunshine" helmers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris from a script by Simon Beaufoy ("127 Hours"). Danny Boyle will serve as producer. According to Deadline, the film be "a comedy with dramatic and political overtones".

There are also two other projects on this topic in the works. One is an HBO film starring Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti, while the other is called "Match Maker" and it stars Will Ferrell.
