Kurt Russell is in talks to join the drama Deepwater Horizon
Dylan O'Brien has joined the cast of Peter Berg's Deepwater Horizon
Kurt Russell ("Furious 7") and Dylan O'Brien ("The Maze Runner") have joined the fact-based drama "Deepwater Horizon". Directed by Peter Berg ("Lone Survivor"), the film tells the story of the titular oil rig that exploded in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, killing eleven people and injuring 17. The incident also released 650 million litres of oil into the Gulf over the course of 87 days. Five years later, the effects of the spill are still being felt.

O'Brien will star as Caleb Holloway, Deepwater Horizon's youngest crew member and survivor of the disaster. Russell is in negotiations for an unknown role. The film also stars Mark Wahlberg and Gina Rodriguez ("Jane the Virgin"). The script has been written by Matthew Michael Carnahan ("World War Z", "The Kingdom").

"Deepwater Horizon" is currently in pre-production phase and will be released on September 30, 2016.
