Weekend Box-Office Report: CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2, RUSH, DON JON, BAGGAGE CLAIM

Box Office Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2

The animated comedy "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2" took the top spot this past weekend, as expected, although its $35 million 3-day gross was not as impressive as that of rival animated features and only slightly better than the $30 million earned by the first film in its debut weekend. Meanwhile, last week's #1 drama "Prisoners" dropped to #2, and the previously limited release "Rush" expanded and landed at #3 with a modest $10 million in the US and an additional $13 million overseas. Two new comedies also opened this week, "Baggage Claim" starring Paula Patton at #4 and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut "Don Jon" at #5. Both performed modestly but are essentially low-budget films, so they shouldn't have too much trouble recouperating their investments. Although not part of the top 10, "Metallica Through the Never" performed quite well during its 3D and IMAX limited release this weekend, grossing $1.6 million from 305 theaters. The concert movie expands this Friday.

More box-office details and the complete top 10, after the jump.
