"Dark Phoenix" is the twelfth installment in the "X-Men" movie franchise, a direct sequel to 2016's "X-Men: Apocalypse", as well as the seventh and final installment in the main series of "X-Men" films.

Written and directed by Simon Kinberg in his directorial debut, the film follows Jean Grey's (Sophie Turner) transformation into the Dark Phoenix. The story is based on Chris Claremont and John Byrne's "The Dark Phoenix Saga", an arc that was previously adapted in "The Last Stand". The cast also includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters and Jessica Chastain.

"Dark Phoenix" opened in theaters on June 7, 2019 and received mostly negative reviews from critics.

During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together.
