"Green Book" is a dramedy co-written and directed by Peter Farrelly ("There's Something About Mary", "Dumb and Dumber") based on the true story of a tour of the Deep South in the 1960s by world-class Black pianist Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) and New York nightclub bouncer Tony Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen), who was hired as Shirley's driver. Confronted with racism, danger, but also unexpected humanity and humor, the two are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime. The film also stars Linda Cardellini and Iqbal Theba.

The screenplay was written by Farrelly, Brian Currie and Vallelonga's son Nick Vallelonga. The title is inspired by the mid-20th century guidebook for African-American roadtrippers called "The Negro Motorist Green Book".

"Green Book" premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival where it won the People's Choice Award. It opened in select theaters on November 16, 2018 and received mostly positive reviews from critics.

"When Tony Lip (Mortensen), a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley (Ali), a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on "The Green Book" to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger-as well as unexpected humanity and humor-they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime."
