"Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" is a sequel to the 2015 fantasy film "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" based on J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" Wizarding World universe. Franchise veteran David Yates returns to direct the new installment from a script written by Rowling herself.

The new film follows the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), as they attempt to take down evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp replacing the first film's Colin Farrell), who has escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. The cast also includes Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoe Kravitz, Claudia Kim, Callum Turner, Carmen Ejogo and Poppy Corby-Tuech.

"Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" opened in theaters worldwide on November 16, 2018 and received mostly mixed reviews from critics. Despite a lackluster critical reception, the film is still primed to explode at the weekend box-office and has already delivered an impressive $9.1 million in Thursday night preview grosses from 3,300 theaters.

"At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world."
