The big winner at the 2017 César Awards was Paul Verhoeven's psychological drama "Elle". The film won Best Film and Best Actress for Isabelle Huppert's amazing performance, which also earned her and Academy Award nomination. Unfortunately, "Elle" did not make the Foreign Language Oscar shortlist.

Other major awards were split between Xavier Dolan's "It's Only the End of the World", which scored Best Actor (Gaspard Ulliel), Director and Editing (both for Dolan), and Houda Benyamina's "Divines" won Best Debut Feature, Supporting Actress (Deborah Lukumuena) and Best Female Newcomer (Oulaya Amamra).
