Box-Office: STAR WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS Breaks All Records

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" fulfilled Disney's prophecy and devastated the box-office with the strength of a thousand Death Stars. Or just a new bigger one. It broke all possible records, and only one may, or may not be left in contention. So it came to be that no other movie was allowed to make money over the weekend, although, somehow, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip" and "Sisters" managed to get some.

Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" shattered the domestic box-office with a record-breaking $238 million debut, and also achieved a long list of equally impressive titles along the way. The film also managed to score the following records: Largest Thursday Previews ($57 million), Largest Friday, Opening Day and Single Day ($120.5 million), Top Holiday Opening Weekend, Biggest Weekend Overall, Biggest December Weekend and Single Day, Fastest to $100 million, and the Global and Domestic IMAX Opening record.

The only other record left to be claimed is the worldwide weekend total which is currently estimated at $517 million, not enough to break the record held by "Jurassic World", but the final count may in fact be closer to $528 million according to recent sources, which would give it a $3 million edge over the dino reboot. Still, the international debut of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is only third behind "Jurassic World" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2".

In second place, in the shadow of Disney's behemoth, lies the sequel "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip" which grossed $14.4 million, a new all-time low for the franchise which has declined at a steady pace since the second film's $48.8 million debut. This fourth entry in the franchise also has the biggest budget ($90 million).

Universal's comedy "Sisters" starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler placed third with $13.4 million. The film has the potential for a good holdover and with only a $30 million budget to earn back, it won't have a hard time turning a profit.

A big surprise comes from the #9 and #10 entries, two Bollywood films, "Dilwale" and "Bajirao Mastani" which scored $1.8 million and $1.6 million, respectively.

New Wide Releases: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip", "Sisters".

Biggest Drop : "In the Heart of the Sea" (-68%)

Smallest Drop : "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" (-50%)
