Box-Office: NO GOOD DEED Overtakes DOLPHIN TALE 2 With $24 Million

After two poor weeks at the box-office which allowed "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" to hold on top, this weekend we have some new competition. The thriller "No Good Deed" starring Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson dominated with a $24.5 million debut, well above expectations, followed at a considerable distance by the family sequel "Dolphin Tale 2" with $16.5 million. For "Dolphin Tale 2", the result is a bit of a disappointment, since the original opened in September 2011 with $19 million, and many expected the new installment to take in at least $20 million. Still, the film is a small-budget affair, so it will manage some profit by the end of its theatrical run.

A very impressive result is that of the crime drama "The Drop" starring Tom Hardy, James Gandolfini, and Noomi Rapace. The film, an adaptation of a Dennis Lehane short story, scored $4.2 million during its first days of limited release (only 809 theaters) and placed sixth in the top 10.

In other box-office news, "Guardians of the Galaxy" became the first film of the year to pass $300 million domestically. The film's worldwide cume has now reached $611 million.
