Anne Hathaway has now officially joined the cast of "Les Miserables", the big-screen adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, which takes place in the time of the 19th century French Revolution. She will play Fantine, while Hugh Jackman and Russel Crowe will play Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert, respectively. Also cast is Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier, while Geoffrey Rush is still in negotiations for the role of Monsieur Thenardier. As a fun fact, Geoffrey Rush previously played Javert in the 1998 non-musical movie, in which Liam Neeson starred as Jean Valjean. As for Anne Hathaway, I think she's a fitting choice for the musical adaptation. She is not only a talented and versatile actress, but she can also sing. She has showcased her impressive voice on several occasions, for example at the 2009 Academy Awards (alongside co-star Hugh Jackman), and during several skits on Saturday Night Live. The movie will be directed by Oscar and Emmy winner Tom Hooper ("The King's Speech", "Elizabeth I") and the adapted screenplay is penned by William Nicholson ("Gladiator", "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"). "Les Miserables" is scheduled in the US for a December 7, 2012 release date
