Written and directed by Rungano Nyoni, the African drama "I Am Not a Witch" tells the story of an eight-year-old girl (Maggie Mulubwa) living in a Zambian village, who is accused of witchcraft and exiled to a witch camp in the middle of a desert. Nyoni used real stories as inspiration for the film and even spent time in a real witch camp in Ghana.

The film won Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer at the 2018 BAFTA Awards, and was nominated for the Golden Camera award at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

"I Am Not a Witch" opened in theaters on October 20, 2017 in the U.K. and in select theaters in the U.S. on September 7, 2018.
