"The Darkest Minds" is a sci-fi thriller directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson ("Kung Fu Panda 3") from a script by Chad Hodge ("Good Behavior"), based on the YA novel of the same name by Alexandra Bracken

In a near future when a disease known as Idiopathic Adolescent Acute Neurodegeneration killed 90% of children under the age of eighteen, the children who survived became endowed with psychic abilities. The story focuses on a group of teenagers, played by Amandla Stenberg, Harris Dickinson, Miya Cech and Skylan Brooks, who escape a government created internment camp, and form a resistance group to fight back and reclaim control of their future. The cast also includes Mandy Moore, Bradley Whitford, Gwendoline Christie, Patrick Gibson and Mark O'Brien.

"The Darkest Minds" opened in theaters on August 10, 2018 and received mostly negative reviews from critics. It also bombed at the box-office, grossing only $5.8 million in its opening weekend, and $13 million worldwide after 7 days in theaters against a $34 million budget.

"When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven.
