"The Catcher Was a Spy" is a biopic directed by Ben Lewin ("The Sessions") based on the novel of the same name written by Nicholas Dawidoff. The script was written by Robert Rodat ("Saving Private Ryan").

The film tells the true story of Moe Berg (Paul Rudd), a major league baseball player, who is recruited by the Office of Strategic Services (the precursor to the CIA) to help defeat the Nazis in the race to build the first atomic bomb. Mark Strong, Connie Nielsen, Sienna Miller, Guy Pearce, Jeff Daniels, Paul Giamatti, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shea Whigham, Tom Wilkinson, Giancarlo Giannini and Jeff Daniels co-star.

The Catcher Was a Spy" premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and was released in select theaters on June 22, 2018. The film received mostly negative reviews from critics.

"In the midst of World War II, major league catcher Moe Berg (Paul Rudd) is drafted to join a new team: the Office of Strategic Services (the precursor to the CIA). No ordinary ballplayer, the erudite, Jewish Ivy League graduate speaks nine languages and is a regular guest on a popular TV quiz show. Despite his celebrity, Berg is an enigma - a closeted gay man with a knack for keeping secrets. The novice spy is quickly trained and sent into the field to stop German scientist Werner Heisenberg before he can build an atomic bomb for the Nazis."
