"First Match" is a drama written and directed by Olivia Newman based on her own 2010 short of the same name. Elvire Emanuelle stars as a teenage girl from Brooklyn's Brownsville neighborhood, hardened by years in foster care, who joins the boys wrestling team as a way to reconnect with her estranged father. The film also stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Colman Domingo, Jharrel Jerome and Jared Kemp.

"First Match" premiered at South by Southwest festival on March 12, 2018 and premiered on Netflix on March 30th.
