"The Cloverfield Paradox" is a sci-fi horror film and the third installment in the "Cloverfield" franchise. Directed by Julius Onah and produced by J.J. Abrams, the film follows a group of scientific researchers on a space station working to solve a massive energy crisis on Earth, who unwittingly unleash something terrifying. The cast features Daniel Brühl, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Elizabeth Debicki, Ziyi Zhang, David Oyelowo, Chris O'Dowd and John Ortiz.

The film had been in developement since 2012 when it was titled "God Particle". As with "10 Cloverfield Lane", the script for "God Particle" written by Oren Uziel ("22 Jump Street") was unrelated to the "Cloverfield" series, and after it was picked up by Paramount they added elements that would connect it to the franchise.

"The Cloverfield Paradox" was surprisingly released via Netflix on February 4, 2018 following an ad that was shown during Super Bowl LII. It was reported that Netflix paid around $50 million for the premiere rights. Paramount considered this release strategy in order to make a profit as they felt that the film, which cost a reported $40 million, would not be able to recoup its budget.

Another reason for this strategy might be obvious considering the extremely negative reviews that the film has been getting since its release. Many critics complained about the writing and muddled narrative, and consider it the worst installment in the series.
