Sony Pictures Animation offers a new version of the Nativity story in the animated film "The Star", which is based on an original idea by Tom Sheridan. Directed by "Anomalisa" lead animator Timothy Reckart, the film follows the adventures of a brave donkey and his animal friends who become unlikely heroes of the first Christmas.

The voice cast includes Steven Yeun, Keegan-Michael Key, Aidy Bryant, Gina Rodriguez, Christopher Plummer, Zachary Levi, Ving Rhames, Gabriel Iglesias, Kelly Clarkson, Kris Kristofferson, Kristin Chenoweth, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry and Mariah Carey.

"The Star" opened in theaters on November 17th, 2017 and recieved mixed reviews from critics. The film also had a modest debut at the box-office, grossing $10 million and placing sixth in its opening weekend.

"In Sony Pictures Animation's THE STAR, a small but brave donkey named Bo yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill. One day he finds the courage to break free, and finally goes on the adventure of his dreams. On his journey, he teams up with Ruth, a lovable sheep who has lost her flock, and Dave, a dove with lofty aspirations.
