"Roman J. Israel, Esq." is a legal drama written and directed by Dan Gilroy ("Nightcrawler") that stars Denzel Washington as the titular character, a driven, idealistic defense attorney who is thrown into a crisis that leads him to extreme action which challenges the activism that defined his career.

The film also stars Colin Farrell, Carmen Ejogo, Amanda Warren, and Hugo Armstrong.

"Roman J. Israel, Esq." opened in limited release on November 17th, 2017 and will expand nationwide on November 22nd. It received mixed reviews from critics who praised Washington's complex performance, but criticized the film for being a heavy-handed genre exercise that doesn't do justice to its promising character exploration.
