"Song to Song" is Terrence Malick's latest cinematic experiment, a romantic drama set against the music scene of Austin, Texas. Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender and Natalie Portman star as two entangled couples who chase success through a rock 'n' roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.

The cast also includes Cate Blanchett, Holly Hunter, Bérénice Marlohe, Val Kilmer and Lykke Li. As is the case with many of Malick's films, other actors were part of the film's initial eight-hour first cut, including Christian Bale, Haley Bennett, Benicio del Toro, Arcade Fire, Iron & Wine, Fleet Foxes, Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes and Angela Bettis, but they were eventually cut from the final product.

"Song to Song" premiered in limited release on March 17th, 2017 and received a mixed reception from critics, with some calling it a "life-changing masterpiece", while others have said it's "incoherent, disconnected, self-interrupting, obsessed with pointless minutiae and crammed full of odd, limp stabs at profundity".
