Margot Robbie ("The Wolf of Wall Street") is set to star as disgraced American figure skater Tonya Harding in the biopic "I, Tonya". Robbie will also produce the film alongside Bryan Unkeless and his Clubhouse Pictures. The script has been written by Steven Rogers ("Love the Coopers"), who has conducted extensive interviews with Harding and her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly.

Harding, is an American former figure skating champion, two-time Olympian, and a two-time Skate America Champion. In 1991, she won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and placed second in the World. She was also the second woman, and first American woman, to complete a triple Axel jump.

The focus of the film will be the 1994 incident in which Harding's rival Nancy Kerrigan was attacked with an ASP telescopic baton prior to the 1994 Winter Olympics by a man hired by Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, and her bodyguard Shawn Eckhardt. Kerrigan sustained a leg injury that forced her to withdraw from the national championship, which Harding won. Both Kerrigan and Harding were elected for the 1994 Olympic team, but the latter finished eighth while the former, fully recovered from the injury, won the silver medal.

The Harding-Kerrigan rivalry attracted some of the highest TV ratings in Winter Olympics history. However, the scandal surrounding the incident ultimately led to Harding being banned for life and stripped of her 1994 championship.

Robbie can also be seen this summer in the comic book adaptation "Suicide Squad" and the adventure epic "The Legend of Tarzan".
