Rosamund Pike ("Gone Girl") is in talks to join Christian Bale in the western "Hostiles". Written and directed by Scott Cooper ("Black Mass"), the film is set in 1892 and it tells the story of a legendary Army captain (Bale) who agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family from an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico back to their tribal lands in Montana.
Pike will star as a young widow whose family was murdered on the plains. She eventually joins forces with the travellers to overcome both nature and the hostile Comanche tribes that they encounter along the way. Production is set to begin in July.
Cooper is said to have chosen Pike to star in his film after seeing her in Massive Attack's music video "Voodoo in My Blood". The actress has recently finished work on the World War II thriller "HHhH" and the period drama "A United Kingdom".
