It's rare that the existence of a Hollywood sequel can catch you by surprise, but here is the first trailer and poster for "10 Cloverfield Lane", the unexpected sequel to the 2008 found-footage monster film "Cloverfield".
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a young woman who after waking up from a car accident, finds herself in the basement of a man (John Goodman) who says he's saved her life from a chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.
Exactly how this ties into the first film's plot remains to be seen, but it looks like it's going to be a different kind of film, as evidenced by producer J.J. Abrams who said that "The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible." The "blood relative" statement brings to mind Ridley Scott's "Alien DNA" concept for "Prometheus". The script was written by Josh Campbell, Matthew Stuecken and "Whiplash" writer/director Damien Chazelle.
Also starring John Gallagher Jr., "10 Cloverfield Lane" opens in theaters on March 11th
