Originally the news broke out as a rumor that the studio was looking to give audiences a male-driven film more similar to the original, but various sources have since denied this rumor. Sony is, however, planning to produce a total of four "Ghostbusters" movies. And to think that a few months ago we barely had one new "Ghostbusters" movie in the works. The plan is to give the franchise a kind of "Marvel Cinematic Universe" approach which aims at bringing together the cast of Feig's film (Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones) with that of the Tatum/Pratt installment.
Also, Badass Digest reports that Sony plans to do a prequel later on, one that will have nothing to do with the original film, however.
All this seems to indicate that there's some really intricate stuff going on with the franchise at this point and they've got everything mapped out. Let's hope it works out better than it did with the "Spider-Man" franchise.
