Box-Office: TRANSFORMERS 4 Continues to Shine Through Weak 4th of July Weekend

Box Office Transformers 4 on Fourth of July Weekend

The 4th of July weekend did not generate the impact that studios were expecting at the box-office. The Michael Bay directed sequel "Transformers: Age of Extinction" managed to remain the No. 1 movie despite a drop of over 63% from its opening weekend. One of the reasons for this was a lack of interest from moviegoers for the new wide releses. The Melissa McCarthy comedy "Tammy" managed to rank second, grossing $32 million in 5 days. Despite scathing reviews from both critics and audiences alike, the $20 million R-rated comedy performed well enough in terms of profit, although not quite on par with its ambitions (some expected it to gross around $40 million). The exorcism horror "Deliver Us from Evil" also underperformed with $9.5 million during the weekend and $15 million in five days. The worst of the pack, the family sci-fi adventure "Earth to Echo" only took in $13 million in its first five days, placing sixth in the top 10.

New Wide Releases: "Tammy", "Deliver us From Evil", "Earth to Echo".

Biggest Drop : "Transformers: Age of Extinction" (-63%)

Smallest Drop : "Maleficent" (-26%)
