- It's official that James Cameron is devoted to making only "Avatar" movies from now on, but while everyone believed he was referring to an "Avatar" trilogy, it seems he's thinking more in terms of a quadrilogy. Sigourney Weaver broke the news and according to Roger Friedman of Showbizz 411 : "She goes right into a new Christopher Durang play for a short run at Lincoln Center. Then she films Avatar 2, 3, and 4 with James Cameron. That’s right: they’re making three sequels to the blue 3D phenom all at the same time. Weaver says she has no idea how long it will take, or how it’s going to work. “I just show up,” she said." This is movie buzz in its purest form, neither officially confirmed, nor denied, but since Cameron is going 100% "Avatar" and considering how much box-office potential the franchise has, it's safe to assume that we'll probably get more than four movies if all goes well and the public doesn't lose interest. No further details are available regarding the plot or cast members, apart from Sigourney Weaver, but Cameron expressed his interest in exploring the oceans of Pandora. We all know how much he loves the ocean and I think it's about time we get a 3D "The Abyss"-like sci-fi adventure.
- The first official images of Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, in the upcoming movie based on the novel "One Shot" by Lee Child, have gone online (see below). Here is the synopsis: "A homicide investigator digs deeper into a case involving a trained military sniper who shot five random victims. Based on a book in Lee Child's crime series. The movie is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (writer of "The Usual Suspects" and "Valkyrie") and also stars Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins and Werner Herzog.
Work has begun on the "Carrie" remake. The photo on the left shows young actress Chloe Grace Moretz ("Kick-Ass", "Let Me In") on the set of the eagerly awaited remake. Also, in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Moretz spoke about how the movie will be more of a psychological thriller in the vein of "Black Swan" and a lot more faithful to Stephen King's novel. The movie also stars Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Gabriella Wilde and Ansel Elgort and is directed by Kimberly Peirce (writer/director of "Boys Don't Cry"). Here is the official synopsis for the remake :
"The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc."
Writer/director Luc Besson's dark mafia comedy, "Malavita", aims to have an impressive ensemble of actors. Tommy Lee Jones is the latest addition to a cast that already includes Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer. The movie based on the novel "Badfellas by Tonino Benacquista which follows a mafia family (De Niro and Pfeiffer as husband and wife) who enters the witness protection program in France only to return to their criminal habits while under the FBI's protection. Jones will play a "stern handler in the FBI-sponsored program." If "stern" is what they're looking for, Tommy Lee Jones is the perfect choice. Production starts in August.
