NEWS UPDATE : Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, Thunder Run, John Woo and More

  • Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy will star in a new comedy from director Paul Feig ("Bridesmaids"). The movie, written by Katie Dippold ("Parks and Recreation"), is a buddy flick about an FBI Agent, played by Bullock, who teams up with a Boston cop (McCarthy) in order to capture a Russian gangster. Production is expected to begin sometime this year. The movie has yet to be titled.

  • Johnny Depp is set to star in the feature film version of "The Night Stalker", based on a 1970s TV seris about a tabloid reporter who investigates crimes that always turn out to have a supernatural source. The film will be directed by Edgar Wright ("Hot Fuzz", "Shaun of the Dead") and written by D.V. DeVincentis ("High Fidelity")

  • Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas and Robert De Niro have signed on to star in "Last Vegas" a comedy described to be like "The Hangover" with old people. Christopher Walken is rumored to be in negotiations for a part. The film will be directed by Jon Turtletaub ("National Treasure") and written by Adam Brooks ("Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason") and Dan Fogelman ("Crazy, Stupid, Love").

  • Matthew McConaughey, Gerard Butler and Sam Worthington will star in a fact-based 3D CGI action thriller (WOW!!) called "Thunder Run". The film is based on the non-fiction book written by Pulitzer-winner David Zucchino and details the capture of Baghdad at the beginning of the Iraq War in April 2003. Simon West ("Con Air", "The General's Daughter") will be directing. The adaptation was written by Robert David Port (Winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary, Short Subjects - "Twin Towers") and Ken Nolan ("Black Hawk Down"). Production begins this summer.

  • Taylor Lautner is giving the action star status a second chance after the "Abduction" flop. Lautner will star in the parkour thriller "Tracers". Here is the official synopsis : "New York City bicycle messenger, Cam (Lautner) is the hottest thing on two wheels, but is in debt to an organized crime gang. When he crashes his bike into a sexy stranger, Nikki, Cam is immediately seduced by her and the thrill of the world of parkour." The film will be directed by Daniel Benmayor ("The Manhunt"). "Doomed to fail" are words that only scratch the surface of how crappy this film will probably turn out to be.

  • Director John Woo ("Face/Off", "Hard Boiled") returns to the English-language scene with a remake of Seijun Suzuki's 1963 film "Youth of te Beast". The remake will be called "Day of the Beast" and will focus on the Yakuza : "DAY OF THE BEAST follows a western outsider with a grim past as he becomes embroiled in a global turf war between a vicious new breed of Yakuza and old school Cold War Russian mobsters. It’s an action-packed saga of loyalty, revenge and redemption which erupts in the heart of Tokyo. Woo (Mission: Impossible II, Face/Off) will direct and produce the script by Rob Frisbee along with Terence Chang, and Nikkatsu’s Naoki Sato. Lori Tilkin, Aki Sugihara and Yoko Asakura are executive producing."
