NEWS UPDATE: Spider-Man, The Hunger Games, Captain America, Sin City, Star Wars and Ghostbusters Sequels

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will star Jamie Foxx as the villain Electro, a character who gained the power to control electricity after being struck by lightning. Director Marc Webb also dropped some more information about the sequel in an interview for Collider.com. Here is the full video interview :

the hunger games jennifer lawrenceDirector Francis Lawrence ("Constantine", "Water for Elephants") has signed on to direct the remainder of "The Hunger Games" film adaptations. The first film's director Gary Ross passed on the sequel, "Catching Fire". Lawrence will thus direct both that sequel and the two-part finale "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1" and "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2". The three films will be released, in order, as follows : November 22, 2013, November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015.

The "Castle Wolfenstein" videogames will be adapted for the big screen by writer/director Roger Avary ("Pulp Fiction", "Silent Hill"). The film, described as "an action adventure film in the vein of CAPTAIN AMERICA and INGLORIOUS BASTERDS", will focus on a top secret mission to Castle Wolfenstein where Hitler is about to unveil a new secret weapon. A young US Army Captain and a British Special Agent will have to battle Hitler's SS Paranormal Division in order to complete their mission.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" will feature the villain Crossbones, who will be played by Frank Grillo ("The Grey", "Warrior"). Chris Evans will reprise his role as Captain America and will be joined by Anthony Mackie as The Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka the assassin Winter Soldier, and S.H.I.E.L.D members Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, and Scarlett Johansson. The sequel opens on April 4, 2014.

As you may have read, Disney bought Lucasfilm from George Lucas for $4 Billion and is now planning a new "Star Wars" sequel trilogy. The news fired up the imagination of fans throughout the planet and it seems that George Lucas, who will serve as creative consultant for the franchise, already had plans for 12 "Star Wars" films. Lucas biographer Dale Pollock said in a recent interview that while researching for the biography, he was allowed to read the outlines for the 12 films :
"It was originally a 12-part saga. The three most exciting stories were 7, 8 and 9. They had propulsive action, really interesting new worlds, new characters. I remember thinking, ‘I want to see these 3 movies."
Parts 7, 8, and 9 also featured Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill, in his 30s or 40s. Although George Lucas will not direct the sequels and will probably not write, or co-write, the scripts, there is a strong possibility that Disney will use his script outlines as a starting point for the new trilogy.

Last week I was writing about how "Ghostbusters 3" will start filming next summer, and I also expressed caution in regards to this news. And I was right. This week it was announced that Sony Pictures Entertainment is postponing several of their projects due to some financial issues. A decision on "Ghostbuster 3" will be delayed until March. So, even if the project gets greenlit, it's unlikely it will be complete before 2014.

Filming on "Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For" has begun. The sequel is once again co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller and will blend storylines from Miller's comics with a new story. Jamie King, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson will reprise their roles from the first and Jamie Chung ("Sucker Punch") will replace Devon Aoki. Also Mickey Rourke and Clive Owen are also said to return, but it's not entirely certain.
