"The Beaver" is Mel Gibson's big comeback as a serious actor, after last year's "Edge of Darkness" which failed to generate much buzz. Though this movies (directed by Jodie Foster) received mixed feelings in early reviews, critcs are universally praising Gibson's protrayal of a depressed man who chooses to talk through a hand-puppet, going as far as to say that his performance actually saves the film.
