Lara Croft is oficially returning in live-action form. Producer Graham King ("The Departed", "The Aviator", "Blood Diamond") has aquired for his company, GK Films, the rights to adapt the famous videogame franchise for the big screen. There is no screenwriter or director attached to the project for now. All that is known is that Angelina Jolie will not return and that this new movie will be an origin story intended to reboot a new cinematic series. The two previous "Tomb Raider" movies starring Jolie were universally panned by critics and audiences alike but still managed to bring in considerable profit. Further sequels, however, never got made, probably due to the negative reception. I know better than to judge a book by its covers, particularly one that hasn't even been released yet, but I was kind of hoping they would just drop the 'Raider' thing completely. They've already proven, twice, that they can't provide a solid cinematic adaptation for the franchise. Why keep insisting ?
