Ronald D. Moore Boards GOD OF WAR Series As New Showrunner

God Of War Series Amazon Sony

Prolific creator/showrunner Ronald D. Moore ("Battlestar Galactica", "For All Mankind", "Outlander") has been tapped as writer, executive producer and showrunner for Sony TV and Amazon MGM Studios' Prime Video series "God Of War", based on PlayStation's popular video game franchise.

Based on the massively popular 2018 video game developed by Santa Monica Studio, the show follows Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son Atreus to spread her ashes from the highest peak — his wife's final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.

Moore's involvement follows the recent exit of the project's original creative team, showrunner/executive producer Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, who had been with the show since its inception two and a half years ago. They had completed multiple scripts prior to the changeover, but Amazon and Sony Pictures Television decided to go in a different creative direction.

Moore returned to Sony TV in June with a new multi-year overall deal, and this is his first major new project. He had previously been with Sony for almost 10 years, and during that time he produced hit shows like "Outlander" for Starz and "For All Mankind". An "Outlander" prequel series and a "For All Mankind" spinoff are currently in the works, and Moore will executive produce both.

Santa Monica Studio's creative director Cory Barlog remains onboard "God of War" as an executive producer, as do Playstation Productions' Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Sony Interactive Entertainment's Hermen Hulst, and Vertigo's Roy Lee. Santa Monica Studio's Jeff Ketcham is a co-executive producer.
