"The Color Purple" is a musical period drama directed by Blitz Bazawule from a script by Marcus Gardley based on the stage musical of the same name, which in turn is based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Alice Walker. The novel was previously adapted into the 1985 film directed by Steven Spielberg.

The cast includes Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Louis Gossett Jr., Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, Ciara, Jon Batiste, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Fantasia Barrino.

The movie opened in theaters on December 25, 2023.
