The Burial (March 3, 2023 - digital and on demand)

JUMP BACK TO TOP

Director: Michael Escalante

Starring: Faith Kearns, Vernon Taylor

Synopsis:

"Nail-biting horror-thriller THE BURIAL, a captivating mesh of A SIMPLE PLAN and CABIN IN THE WOODS, comes to digital platforms worldwide March 3, 2023 from Terror Films.

Starring Faith Kearns, Vernon Taylor, Spencer Weitzel, and Aaron Pyle, THE BURIAL combines horror, drama, thrills, and black humor.

The film hails from Michael Escalante, an up and coming filmmaker who got his first start in the movie business interning at Roger Corman’s New Horizons Pictures during his last year earning a Bachelor’s in English at UCLA.

When MOLLY’s boyfriend gets a phone call from his estranged brother, she thinks nothing of joining him on an impromptu family reunion at a remote cabin. However, she soon finds herself taking charge of a deadly situation when the trip’s true purpose is revealed and good intentions lead to a conflict with pure evil.

“I’ve been in love with horror from the moment I finally found the bravery to watch the movies behind the DVD covers that scared me as a kid walking through rental stores. The sense of mystery and tension that fills your mind before you press play is intoxicating. However, what I found so compelling about the horror movies I grew up on focused less on the monster or villain at hand, but with how the ordinary people who found themselves in extraordinary situations reacted to them.

My goal with my feature debut, The Burial, was to establish a relatable sense of drama and tension between two estranged brothers even before blood starts being spilled. Horror is often built upon lies and deceit and how these actions can snowball into increasingly dire situations. Most importantly though, the real connection lies between the audience and their relationship to the characters at hand. We love to see our heroes triumph, but we also love to see them brought to their breaking point, both physically and mentally. That inherent tension is what The Burial is built on as we see our characters make increasingly poor decisions, despite doing their best to navigate a life and death situation.

Our movie was brought to life by a very small and dedicated cast and crew that poured everything into making a story that is equal parts relatable and terrifying. Without them, The Burial would never have been possible.” – Michael Escalante"
