"News of the World" is a western drama directed by Paul Greengrass ("Captain Phillips") from a script co-written by Greengrass and Luke Davies ("Lion") based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Paulette Jiles.

The film stars Tom Hanks as a Civil War veteran who agrees to deliver a girl (Helena Zengel), taken by the Kiowa people years ago, to her aunt and uncle, against her will. Michael Covino, Mare Winningham, Elizabeth Marvel and Bill Camp co-star.

"News of the World" opened in theaters on December 25, 2020.

"Five years after the end of the Civil War, Capt. Jefferson Kyle Kidd crosses paths with a 10-year-old girl taken by the Kiowa people. Forced to return to her aunt and uncle, Kidd agrees to escort the child across the harsh and unforgiving plains of Texas. However, the long journey soon turns into a fight for survival as the traveling companions encounter danger at every turn -- both human and natural."
