"Parasite" (Gisaengchung) is a South Korean satirical thriller directed by Bong Joon-ho ("Snowpiercer") from a script he co-wrote alongside Han Jin-won. The film follows the Kim family, poor but street smart, and the Park family, which is the picture of aspirational wealth, as they become entangled in a symbiotic relationship that is soon threatened by a parasitic interloper who threatens the Kims' newfound comfort, prompting a savage battle for dominance.

The film stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik and Park So-dam.

"Parasite" premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Palme d'Or, the first for a Korean film. The film was also the first to win with a unanimous vote since 2013's "Blue is the Warmest Colour". It is also widely regarded as a strong contender for the upcoming 92nd Academy Awards.

"Bong Joon Ho brings his work home to Korea in this pitch-black modern fairytale. Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide "indispensable" luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims' newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks. "
