THE FAREWELL (2019) - Trailer, Images and Poster

"The Farewell" is a biographical dramedy written and directed by Lulu Wang ("Posthumous"). The film stars Awkwafina ("Crazy Rich Asians") as Billi, a Chinese-American woman who returns to China after her grandmother has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, while her family has decided to keep her in the dark. The cast also includes Tzi Ma, Diana Lin, Zhao Shuzhen, Lu Hong, Jiang Yongbo, Chen Han and Aoi Mizuhara.

"The Farewell" premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. It received a limited release in theaters on July 12, 2019. The film will expand nationwide on August 2nd.

SYNOPSIS

"The film follows a Chinese family who, when they discover their beloved Grandmother has only a short while left to live, decide to keep her in the dark and schedule an impromptu wedding to gather before she passes. Billi, feeling like a fish out of water in her home country, struggles with the family's decision to hide the truth from her grandmother."
