In Theaters, June 10, 2011 : THE TRIP

Official Synopsis : Playing loose versions of themselves, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon reprise their hilariously fictionalized roles from Tristam Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story and reunite with acclaimed director Michael Winterbottom for an acerbically witty, largely improvised ride through the English countryside. Tapped by The Observer to review fine restaurants throughout the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, Steve finds himself without a traveling companion after his girlfriend decides not to go at the last minute. After being turned down by everyone else he knows, Steve extends an invitation to Rob, and together the pair attempt to navigate the winding back roads of rural England, impersonating popular celebrities such as Michael Caine, Woody Allen and Liam Neeson (among many others) and bickering along the way. -- (C) IFC

What to Expect : Sharp-witted comedy featuring very wry humor that you'll either love or hate. The impersionations are very spot-on and hilarious, but there's also plenty of serious insight into various issues regarding midlife crysis. Director Michael Winterbottom's first comedy after a string of very serious movies like "Genova", "The Road to Guantanamo and "A Mighty Heart".

Critical Response : The movie is enjoying a warm welcome in the US, although it's only available as a limited release. Critics enjoyed the dry humor and its improvised silliness. Stephanie Zacharek of Movieline marveled at the way "Winterbottom and his actors have captured the essence of your garden-variety midlife crisis in this lively and often bitterly funny two-hour distillation". Andrew O'Hehir of Salon.com called "The Trip" the "wryest and most affecting of all the recent movies about middle-aged male angst". One of the harshest reviews came from Ray Bennett of the "Hollywood Reporter" who argued that the project "suffers badly from being largely improvised as the pair fall back on familiar impressions and old jokes. Lazy and indulegent.". The movie is enjoying a 90% fresh status on Rottentomatoes.com, with 26 positive reviews and 3 negative ones.
