Rachel Weisz Cast in 'Oz' Prequel

I was kind of thinking maybe they should leave the poor Wizard of Oz alone. He's had plenty of sequels and remakes that just didn't do the original story any justice. Then, I heard Sam Raimi was approached to direct a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz" and I quietly thought to myself "Hey, you know what would be cool ? A cross between 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'Evil Dead'." But, since that's highly unlikely, I decided to just wait for Raimi's specific style to sink into this project. The cast for Disney's "Oz: The Great and Powerful" is beginning to take shape, with James Franco and Mila Kunis already on-board. Now, the most recent addition to the cast is Rachel Weisz ("Agora", "The Mummy", "The Constant Gardener", "The Fountain"), who wil play Evanora, one of the evil witches in the story, who tries to seduce her sister Theodora (Mila Kunis) into becoming Wicked Witch of the West. Franco will play a snake oil salesman who escapes from a travelling circus in a balloon but is "derailed" by a twister and arrives in a strange magical land. Not much else is known about the project except that it's likely Disney will aim for a 2013 release date. I sure hope Raimi can have his way with the project without the studios interfering too much.
