Two-time Academy Award (R) winner Jodie Foster directs and co-stars with two-time Academy Award (R) winner Mel Gibson in THE BEAVER - an emotional story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. Plagued by his own demons, Walter Black was once a successful toy executive and family man who now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, Walter can't seem to get himself back on track...until a beaver hand puppet enters his life. -- (C) Summit
What to Expect : Metaphorical filmmaking that will give generate mixed feelings about the whole thing. The real attraction of this movie is Mel Gibson in what is possibly the best role in his career. I suppose whether or not Jodie Foster did a good job on her directorial debut, is in the eye of the beholder.
Critical Response : Above average, although far from perfect. No matter how divided everybody seems to be about the movie itself, Mel Gibson's performance is unanimously praised and given a big push for next year's awards season. Currrently it's 70% fresh on Rottentomatoes.com, with 45 positive reviews and 19 negative.
