In Theaters, May 13, 2011 : PRIEST

Maggie Q -- Hot !
Official Synopsis : PRIEST, a western-fused post-apocalyptic thriller, is set in an alternate world -- one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest (Paul Bettany) from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece (Lily Collins) is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece's boyfriend (Cam Gigandet), a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess (Maggie Q) who possesses otherworldly fighting skills. -- (C) Sony

What to Expect : Ultra-cool sci-fi fare starring one of the most underused actors of his generation : Paul Bettany. You might remember him as the crazy monk from "The Da Vinci Code". In fact, in "Priest" he once again evokes that kind of pseudo-religious fervor as an ass-kicking priest with cool gadgets. The movie has a slick dystopic presentation, but the rest of it, I'm afraid, is as cliched and mediocre as a "Resident Evil" movie. What could you expect from the director of "Legion" (also starring Bettany).

Critical Response : Entirely negative with a few pockets of mixed opinions. Most critics agree that the movie's visuals are cool, but it adds little in terms of characters and story. One critic actually says : "They could have called this one 'Something Borrowed', because everything feels lifted from other films". Other critics have been turned off by the 3D effects, which another critic says are "appaling". 19% fresh on "Rottentomatos.com", with 5 postivie reviews and 22 negative. Bummer.
