Based on the 1992 novel "The Chinaman" written by Stephen Leather, "The Foreigner" is an action thriller directed by Martin Campbell ("Casino Royale").

The film stars Jackie Chan as a retired Vietnam War special forces operator who has become a humble businessman in London. His peaceful life ends abruptly when his daughter is killed in an act of terrorism, and he sets out to find those responsible and bring them to justice. His quest for vengeance brings him to a British government official (Pierce Brosnan), whose own past may hold clues to the identities of the elusive killers.

The cast also includes Ray Fearon, Michael McElhatton, Stephen Hogan and Rory Fleck-Byrne.

"The Foreigner" opened in theaters on October 13th, 2017 and received mostly mixed reviews. Chan and Brosnan were praised for playing against-type roles, but the film was considered average and cliched. It grossed $13.1 million in its opening weekend and went on to earn $30.1 million domestically, so far, and another $97.6 million overseas against a $35 million production budget.

"The Foreigner, starring Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan, is a timely action thriller from the director of Casino Royale. The film tells the story of humble London businessman Quan (Chan), whose long-buried past erupts in a revenge-fueled vendetta when the only person left for him to love -- his teenage daughter -- is taken from him in a senseless act of politically-motivated terrorism. In his relentless search for the identity of the terrorists, Quan is forced into a cat-and-mouse conflict with a British government official (Brosnan), whose own past may hold clues to the identities of the elusive killers."
